ABOUT De Montfort University

De Montfort University (DMU) traces its origins to the Leicester School of Art, founded in 1870, and gained full university status in 1992, adopting its current name in honor of Simon de Montfort, Earl of Leicester. The university is structured into four key faculties: Art, Design & Humanities; Business & Law; Health & Life Sciences; and Computing, Engineering & Media (CEM). It is particularly recognized for its innovative block teaching method, where students focus on one module at a time with frequent feedback, a system well-received by learners. DMU also emphasizes strong industry connections, offering work-integrated learning with major employers such as ASOS, Disney, HSBC, KPMG, L’Oréal, Rolls-Royce, and Pfizer. The university holds a Silver rating in the UK's Teaching Excellence Framework (2023) and has demonstrated rising performance in QS Sustainability & Impact rankings, supported by its Empowerment Strategy. Research quality is notable, with around 60% of its REF-assessed work rated as world-leading or internationally excellent, alongside a strong impact profile. DMU has a diverse student body of approximately 23,000, with about 42% being international, and maintains a student-staff ratio of around 18:1 with roughly 1,215 academic staff members.
