All of this will look like a big hurdle for you but every time you conquer a hurdle you would feel confident and the confidence would help you in future life .The process of adapting to a new cultural environment pushes you beyond established comfort zones, fostering resilience and emotional maturity. Some countries allow international students to work part-time, helping fund travel. Additionally, scholarships and grants can support travel expenses, making adventure more accessible. In summary, studying abroad is not only an academic journey but also an adventure-packed opportunity to explore new places, embrace diverse cultures, and create unforgettable memories.Scholarships: Making Study Abroad More Affordable for Bangladeshi StudentsOne of the biggest concerns for students considering education abroad is the financial cost. Fortunately, there are numerous scholarship opportunities specifically available to Bangladeshi students that can significantly ease this burden. Government-funded scholarships such as the UK’s Chevening Scholarships, Russian Government Scholarship, and the US Fulbright Program offer full or partial funding covering tuition fees, living expenses, and travel costs. Many top universities also provide their own scholarships, like the GREAT Scholarships in the UK, Oxford’s Clarendon Fund, and Gates Cambridge Scholarships, which are highly competitive but rewarding. Additionally, scholarships based on merit, financial need, leadership, or specific fields of study further open doors for talented Bangladeshi students. By researching early and preparing strong applications, students can take advantage of these financial aids to make studying abroad more accessible and affordable.Higher Earning Potential:Research consistently shows that studying abroad positively impacts graduates' earning potential, although the size of the effect varies by context and individual factors.Meta-analyses indicate a statistically significant wage premium for study abroad participants, typically between 2% and 5% higher wages, depending on the length of stay, host country, and employment context. Wage gains are more pronounced for stays abroad lasting 3 to 12 months and vary by host country. For instance, Erasmus program participants in Germany saw wage increases around 15.6%, while effects were smaller or insignificant in some other countries.Studying abroad also helps graduates find jobs faster and more closely related to their majors, which contributes to higher earnings over time. Nearly 90% of IES Abroad alumni secured jobs within six months of graduation, compared to 49% of general graduates within a year. In Fact, Employers value the global competencies gained abroad-such as language skills, cultural adaptability, problem-solving, and independence-which translate. In summary, Studying abroad gives your career a head start — with higher salaries, better jobs, and the global skills employers want.A journey of self-discovery and seeing the world with fresh eyes:You learn more about yourself — your strengths, your values, and how you handle challenges. You get to see the world from new perspectives — meeting people from different cultures, experiencing new lifestyles, and understanding how things work outside your home country. This makes you more open-minded, tolerant, and globally aware.Downsides and Challenges of Studying Abroad for Bangladeshi StudentsWhile studying abroad offers many benefits, there are significant drawbacks and challenges that Bangladeshi students often face:Cultural Shock and Social ExclusionAdapting to a new culture can be difficult. Differences in language, values, and social norms often cause cultural shock, leading to feelings of isolation and social exclusion. Even in multicultural countries, many students struggle to fully integrate and feel like outsidersFinancial BurdenStudying abroad is expensive. High tuition fees combined with costly living expenses in developed countries create a heavy financial strain. Many students and families find it challenging to afford these costs, and while scholarships exist, they are competitive and not guaranteed.Visa and Immigration ChallengesRecent policy changes in popular destinations like Canada, Germany, and Australia have made obtaining and extending student visas more difficult. Restrictions on visa duration, increased documentation, and long waiting times can disrupt students’ academic plans and create uncertainty.Psychological and Emotional StressLiving far from family and familiar support systems can cause loneliness, homesickness, and mental health issues. Managing time, finances, and academic pressure simultaneously adds to the stress.Accommodation and Living DifficultiesFinding affordable and suitable accommodation is a common problem. High rents and unfamiliar living conditions can affect students’ comfort and focus on studies.Uncertain Career OutcomesDespite the promise of better job opportunities, changing immigration policies and competitive job markets abroad mean that post-study work options are not always guaranteed. Many students face challenges securing employment after graduation. These challenges suggest that students should carefully weigh the potential hardships against the benefits before deciding to study abroad. Exploring quality education opportunities within Bangladesh or in more affordable and accessible countries may sometimes be a more practical choice. To Conclude:Studying abroad is much more than an academic pursuit-it’s a life-changing journey that opens doors to countless opportunities. From expanding your worldview and perfecting a second language to enhancing your independence and boosting your career prospects, the benefits of studying abroad are profound and far-reaching. It offers unique chances for research and innovation, unforgettable travel and adventure, and the development of invaluable life skills that shape your personal and professional future. If you’re thinking about studying abroad, now is the perfect time to take that leap. The experiences you gain will not only transform your education but also empower you to thrive in a diverse, globalized world-opening doors to a lifetime of opportunities.

– Author of this BlogMd Rejuan Ahmed MahimI know the fear of the unknown — and the thrill of a new beginning. As a 2025 Russian Government Scholar and BAPO special intern, I share what I’ve learned to help you move forward. One of the biggest dilemmas for international students is choosing the right country and making the right decision for their education and future. With so many options around the world, it’s no surprise that countries like Russia and Cyprus are becoming increasingly popular among Bangladeshi students. But which one is truly the better choice for you?In this blog, we dive deep into a comparison between Russia and Cyprus, focusing on the key areas that matter most: Education system Cost of living Lifestyle Language Post-graduation opportunitiesQuality of education:Quality of Institution: Russia’s education system is highly structured, emphasizing STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) and vocational training. Russian universities tend to rank higher globally, with several in the top 500.Cyprus' top universities, such as the University of Cyprus and Cyprus University of Technology, are generally ranked between 600 and 1000 globally, reflecting strong regional but less pronounced global impact.Tuition fees : Tuition fees are generally low due to government subsidies, ranging from approximately RUB 36,500 to RUB 434,250 per year (about €400–€4,800), depending on the program and university. In Russia most of the university is public university so the tuition fee is relatively low.Tuition fees are competitive, especially at public universities, but can be higher at private institutions. Cyprus West University, for example, emphasizes affordability for international students also there are many university based partial scholarship opportunities at various universities.Top Universities:Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU),Moscow , Russia. QS ranking 94.University of Cyprus (Cyprus) Nicosia, QS ranking 667Cost of living: Accommodation:Russia offers highly affordable, university-managed accommodation with a variety of dormitory types, often located conveniently on or near campus. While some dorms may be basic, ongoing improvements and new developments are raising living standards. This makes Russia a better option for students prioritizing cost and guaranteed university housing.Cyprus provides generally more comfortable and modern living conditions, often with private rooms and better amenities, but at a higher cost. The student housing market is more reliant on private rentals, offering greater independence but less guaranteed university accommodation.Overall, Russia’s student accommodation is better suited for budget-conscious students seeking affordable and university-supported housing, while Cyprus offers a more comfortable, independent lifestyle at a higher price point.Food Cost: In Russia Food is relatively cheap. A student can spend about RUB 9,000–10,000 ($120–130) monthly on groceries. Meals at inexpensive restaurants cost around $3–$5. Local staples like potatoes, milk, and bread are inexpensive.Food costs are higher in Cyprus due to the Mediterranean location and import reliance. Monthly groceries can cost between €250 and €350 ($275–$385). Eating out at inexpensive restaurants typically costs €10–€15 ($11–$17).Transportation: In Russia Public transport is affordable, with monthly student passes costing about $5–$10. The metro in Moscow costs around $65 for a monthly card, but student discounts are available, lowering this cost significantly. In Cyprus Public transport is less extensive; monthly bus passes cost around €40–€50 ($44–$55). Many students rely on bicycles or scooters, or share rides due to limited public transport options.Utilities and Internet: In Russia utilities for a studio apartment average around $150 per month. Internet packages cost $10–$15 monthly.Utilities tend to be higher, averaging €100–€150 ($110–$165) monthly. Internet costs are similar, about €25–€35 ($27–$38) per month.Safety and Discrimination for students : Russia:International students, especially from diverse ethnic backgrounds, may occasionally face discrimination or social exclusion, though this is less common in large cosmopolitan cities. LGBTQ+ individuals face significant societal and legal challenges, with hate crimes and limited protectionsCyprus:Cyprus is generally tolerant and welcoming to international students from various backgrounds .The presence of a large expatriate and student community fosters inclusivity and cultural exchange.Weather Conditions:Russia experiences a much colder climate with long, harsh winters and shorter, milder summers. The temperature difference between winter and summer is very pronounced.Cyprus offers a warm, sunny Mediterranean climate with mild winters and hot, dry summers, making it ideal for those who prefer consistent warmth and less severe seasonal changes. For students or residents who prefer mild winters and hot summers with plenty of sunshine, Cyprus provides a much more comfortable and temperate climate year-round. Russia’s climate is suitable for those who do not mind cold winters and enjoy distinct seasonal changes, but it requires preparation for freezing temperatures and snow during winter months. Post study for Work & Job:Russia provides international students with legal opportunities to work during and after their studies, but the process involves strict regulations, location and job restrictions, and bureaucratic hurdles. The large economy offers diverse job prospects, but visa and work permit renewal can be challenging.Cyprus offers a more straightforward and flexible post-study work environment, with dedicated post-graduation permits allowing graduates to seek employment for up to a year. While the job market is smaller, Cyprus’ EU membership enhances mobility and employment opportunities across Europe.Post-Graduation Work: In Russia, the initial work permit after graduation is valid for only one year and must be renewed if they wish to stay longer. Transitioning from student status to a work visa requires compliance with immigration rules and employer sponsorship. In Cyprus, graduates can apply for a temporary residence permit to seek employment or start a business after completing their studies. The government provides a "Job Search Visa" or a "Post-Study Work Permit" allowing graduates to stay and work for up to 12 months after graduation.Visa allocation and location of the embassy:Visa Ratio:Both Russia and Cyprus offer exceptionally high student visa approval rates for Bangladeshi students, with both countries effectively granting visas to nearly all qualified applicants who submit complete and accurate documentation. Both Countries visa ration is nearly 100% till now . Embassy Location:Russia: Russian Embassy in Dhaka, BangladeshCyprus: Cyprus High Commission in New Delhi, IndiaLanguage Requirement:Russia requires international students to have proficiency in Russian for most undergraduate programs, with increasing availability of English-taught graduate courses. Mastery of Russian is important for living, socializing, and working outside campus. Preparatory Russian courses are often necessary.Cyprusoffers a predominantly English-speaking academic environment, making it easier for international students without knowledge of the local language. English suffixes for study and daily life, though learning Greek can enhance cultural integration.Degree Recognition in the world:Russiaoffers degrees from historically prestigious and research-intensive universities with strong global recognition, particularly in medicine and STEM fields. Russian degrees are respected worldwide, but graduates may need to pass local licensing exams depending on the country.Cyprusprovides degrees fully aligned with European standards, ensuring smooth recognition across the EU and associated countries. While global rankings are generally lower than Russia’s top universities, Cyprus degrees benefit from EU membership, facilitating academic and professional mobility within Europe.Top Scholarship & Financial Aid:Russiaoffers more extensive and fully-funded scholarship opportunities for international students, including tuition, living stipends, accommodation, and preparatory courses. The Russian Government Scholarship program is large-scale, competitive, and covers a broad range of disciplines and degree levels.Cyprusprovides more limited but still valuable scholarships, mainly partial tuition waivers based on academic merit, particularly at public and private universities. Scholarships in Cyprus tend to be smaller in scale and often require maintaining high academic performance. For international students seeking fully-funded, comprehensive financial aid, Russia’s scholarship programs are more generous and numerous. For those looking for partial tuition support in a Mediterranean environment with English-taught programs, Cyprus offers competitive merit-based scholarships but fewer fully-funded options. In summary, both Russia and Cyprus offer unique advantages for international students. Russia stands out with its prestigious universities, extensive scholarship opportunities, and affordable living costs, while Cyprus attracts with its welcoming Mediterranean climate, English-taught programs, and seamless integration within the European education system. Ultimately, your choice should align with your academic goals, language preferences, and lifestyle desires. Accreditation guarantees that your degree will be accepted internationally, removing any concerns about credential recognition when seeking job opportunities worldwide.Another easy way is to just ask, “Which universities are the best?” But it’s not that straightforward. Different organizations use different methods and criteria to rank universities, so there are many types of rankings out there. University ranking mainly based on factors like academic performance , strong faculty , research ,teaching quality etc. Some reliable organization like :QS World rankingUS News global University RankingCWURUNI Rank etc.Career Prospects and Industry Connections:Different parts of the world are renowned for specific industries, making location a strategic consideration for your future career. Choosing a university in an area with a strong presence in your field of interest can provide access to industry expertise, networking opportunities, and practical work experience that will enhance your competitiveness in the job market. For instance, if you are studying business, London places you close to some of Europe’s top companies, opening doors to internships, networking opportunities, and future employment. Likewise, cities such as San Francisco for technology, Milan for fashion, and Singapore for finance provide industry-specific benefits that can enhance your academic journey.Post-Graduation Opportunities:When choosing where to study, it's important to evaluate a country’s post-study work policies and options for permanent residency, especially if they support your future plans. Some countries offer attractive graduate visas that allow international students to remain and work after completing their studies, potentially leading to permanent settlement options.Take time to understand the visa rules, work permit conditions, and immigration opportunities in your target countries. These elements can greatly influence your career path after graduation and should be factored into your decision early on—particularly if gaining international work experience or building a career abroad is part of your goal.Financial Considerations,Budgeting for International Education:It's important to understand the costs of studying abroad so you can make a smart and affordable choice.Tuition Fee Variations:Tuition fees vary a lot between countries, so it’s important to check before deciding. In the U.S. and U.K., costs sometimes fluctuate  from $18,000 to $50,000 per year, especially at top universities. Germany is much cheaper, with many public universities offering free or low-cost education, plus small semester fees.Australia, France, Spain, Netherlands and New Zealand are mid-range, costing around $13,000 to $30,000 a year. If you're looking for budget options, countries like Malaysia, Russia, Cyprus, Lithuania and Thailand offer programs starting from just $2,000 to $5,000 a year.Living Expenses and Total Cost:Besides tuition fee one should also plan for their living expenses because it is mainly affiliated with the university the student is planning to study . If someone chooses London their living cost would be around 2000-2500 pounds monthly .While someone studying in Lisbon, Portugal would have a cost of  €600–€900 euro per month. So, along with university ranking one should check university location as well.Cities with a higher cost of living tend to be more expensive for things like rent, food, and daily needs. It’s a good idea to create a detailed budget to help you figure out what’s affordable and avoid financial surprises while studying abroad.Scholarship Opportunities:Scholarships can help lower the cost of studying abroad, making expensive options more affordable. Many universities, governments, and organizations offer scholarships for international students. These scholarships can cover everything from tuition to living expenses, or sometimes just part of the costs. Be sure to start researching scholarship opportunities early, and pay attention to eligibility and application deadlines, which are often before university application dates.Campus Life and Resources; Your Daily Experience:The campus environment and available resources will shape your daily life and overall educational experience.Campus Facilities:A university’s facilities can really affect your study experience and daily life. Look for resources that match your field—for example, arts students need good studios and theaters. Also check for libraries, labs, tech support, gyms, and health services, as these all help you study better and stay healthy while you're abroad.Student Housing Options:Where you live can really affect your study abroad experience. Many universities offer on-campus housing, which is often cheaper than renting privately. Look into different options like shared rooms, private studios, or residence halls to see what fits your budget and lifestyle.Think about how close it is to classes, what’s included (like meals or internet), and whether you want a social setting or more privacy.Student Support Services:Good student support services can make a big difference when studying abroad. Choose universities that offer help with mental health, academic advice, career planning, and money matters. Also look for support for international students, like visa help, language support, and help adjusting to a new culture. These services can really improve your experience and success while studying abroad.Application Strategy: Crafting Your University Shortlist:A strategic approach to applications can increase your chances of finding the right international university match.Creating a Balanced University List:Making a smart list of universities is key to applying successfully. Start by choosing schools that match your study interests, career plans, and personal needs. Use a spreadsheet to compare things like costs, location, and programs. This gives you the best chance of getting multiple offers.Managing Application Requirements:Applying to international universities can be complicated, with different requirements for each country and school. You may need tests like TOEFL, IELTS, SAT, GRE, or GMAT, along with recommendation letters, personal statements, and sometimes interviews or portfolios.Make a timeline that starts from the deadlines and works backward. Give yourself enough time to prepare for tests, collect documents, and complete your applications carefully. Also check if you need to translate your academic records, show financial proof, or get your documents evaluated.Making the Final Decision: Weighing Your Options:After receiving acceptance offers, a methodical approach to your final decision will help ensure you select the best university for your needs.Balancing Multiple Factors:Once you get your offers, take time to compare the universities carefully. Think about what matters most to you—like academic reputation, course structure, location, costs, and campus facilities. You can make a scoring chart to rate each university based on these factors. This can help you make a clear, smart choice—especially if you’re deciding between a famous (but expensive) school and a more affordable one with strong programs. Seeking Second Opinions:Before you decide, get advice from different people to learn things you might not have thought about. Talk to current students or alumni through social media or online forums to hear about their real experiences. Also speak with teachers, career experts, and family members who understand your goals. Their insights can help you spot challenges or benefits you may not see on your own—though the final choice should be yours. Conclusion: Embarking on Your International Education Journey:Choosing the right university abroad takes time and careful thinking. You need to look at things like study programs, location, costs, campus facilities, and how to apply. This helps you find a university that matches your goals and needs.Remember, this choice is just the start of your journey. Keep an open mind—many universities can give you a great education and experience. With good planning and clear priorities, you’ll be ready to pick a university where you can grow and succeed in your studies, career, and life.Below is a list of websites referenced during the preparation of this article:1.https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/guide-selecting-ideal-university-studying-abroad-overseasadmit-go2yc2.https://www.usnews.com/education/best-global-universities/articles/methodology3.https://studee.com/guides/how-to-choose-the-right-international-university4.https://collegeabroadguides.com/5.https://www.idp.com/canada/blog/support-services-for-international-students/?lang=zk6.https://www.mastersportal.com/articles/3081/how-to-interpret-university-rankings-and-what-are-they-good-for.html7.https://www.studyabroadfoundation.org/blogs/which-university-study-abroad-find-right-school8.https://www.depts.ttu.edu/international/studyabroad/financial/scholarships/easyguide.php9.https://www.indiatoday.in/education-today/story/how-to-choose-the-right-university-for-study-abroad-experience-a-complete-guide-2429624-2023-09-0610.https://www.educations.com/scholarships

Why Do 90% of International Students Want to Work in Korea—But Still Can’t?

South Korea is rising fast as one of the top destinations for international education. With globally ranked universities, world-class research, and vibrant culture, more and more students from around the world are choosing Korea for their academic journey. But here’s the twist:90% of these students want to stay and work in Korea after graduation—yet most of them can’t.The Dream is RealA recent survey by the Korea Federation of SMEs (KBIZ) revealed a striking number—9 out of 10 international students want to build their career in Korea after completing their studies. And it's not just wishful thinking. Their reasons are solid:35.2% said they genuinely enjoy life in Korea.27.7% hoped to earn better salaries than back home.25.6% wanted to work in their specialized academic field. This means Korea isn’t just a place for study—it’s becoming a home for dreams and ambitions. The Harsh Reality: Visa BarriersBut the reality hits hard when students try to turn those dreams into a career. To legally work in Korea, graduates need an E-7 visa (specific activity). And according to the survey, 66.7% of students said getting that visa is very difficult due to strict criteria and bureaucratic red tape. What’s even more frustrating? They’re not allowed to switch from their student (D-2) or jobseeker (D-10) visas to a non-professional E-9 visa, which would let them work in fields like manufacturing or smaller companies.Yet, 58.8% of students said they would gladly take jobs in those sectors—if only the system allowed them to.A Missed Opportunity?Lee Myung-ro, a leader at KBIZ, said it best:“Foreign students are eager to work in Korea, but visa limitations block their path. We need to re-evaluate allowing graduates to join sectors like manufacturing under the E-9 visa.”This issue goes beyond individual frustrations. Korea is spending millions attracting bright students, giving them quality education—but then letting them go when they’re finally ready to contribute.Final ThoughtsKorea has done an incredible job attracting international students. But the next big step is retention. If Korea can ease visa policies and open up flexible work opportunities for graduates, it won’t just help students—it’ll also fuel the country’s economy, innovation, and global competitiveness.Because what’s the point of building a global talent pipeline if it’s just going to leak? What are your thoughts on this? Are you a student in Korea facing similar challenges? Let’s talk in the comments.

What is ECA?

তবে প্রশ্ন তোলা উচিত আদৌ কি শিক্ষার্জন বলতে শুধুমাত্র তাত্ত্বিক বিষয়ে ফোকাস রাখাকে বোঝায় এবং একটি সরকারী চাকুরিই কি ১৬-২৫ বছরের তপস্যার মূল লক্ষ্য হওয়া উচিত?“…we have somehow perpetuated a culture where not only do students not have enough excitement to pursue ECAs to learn, but they don't have the time either.”[1]বিশ্ববিখ্যাত Stanford University-এর Math Major-এর ছাত্র Hamza Alsamraee এর মতে- “ শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠান আপনার কৌতূহল উদ্দীপিত করার এবং আপনার দৃষ্টিভঙ্গি প্রসারিত করার জন্য তৈরি। Go read about philosophy, math, history, whatever intrigues you. Who cares if it makes you money. It’ll make you human”[2]এই আলোচনা থেকে একটি বিষয়ই পরিষ্কার যে আমাদের জানা শিক্ষার্জন এর সংজ্ঞা পুরপুরি ভুল। SUST (Shahjalal University of Science and Technology)-এ ডাইরেক্ট অ্যাডমিশনের অফার পেয়েছিলেন তার ECA-এর কারণে! According to Collegevine, “As a general rule, anything you do routinely outside of the classroom—and not for academic credit—counts as an extracurricular. These activities should have value for you and should have a significant impact on your development.”[3]অর্থাৎ একাডেমিক পড়াশুনার বাইরের সকল কাজই ECA। Indian-born CEO of Google, যিনি তার bachelor’s degree ইন্ডিয়ার বিখ্যাত IIT থেকে করলেও তার মাস্টার্স Stanford University, USA এবং এমবিএ University of Pennsylvania, USA থেকে করেন। আর যদি না পান অথবা অসন্তুষ্টি থাকে তবে মনে রাখবেন “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the second best time is now”[1]- https://www.thedailystar.net/shout/news/the-state-extracurriculars-1981957[2]-  https://www.linkedin.com/posts/hamza-alsamraee_im-a-math-major-at-stanford-ill-be-the-activity-7179140713698267138-AH2H/[3]- https://blog.collegevine.com/breaking-down-the-4-tiers-of-extracurricular-activities[4]- https://youtu.be/HEOGM5qWw84?feature=shared[5] - https://blog.collegevine.com/breaking-down-the-4-tiers-of-extracurricular-activities[6] - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sundar_Pichai
